ADELENE N.T. GAW YOUNG PROFESSIONAL’S SERVICE AWARD
(NEW IN 2024)

In 2024, the Board of Directors announced the introduction of the Adelene N.T. Gaw Young Professional’s Service Award, established in memory of a highly admired and respected CRPA member and past chair of the International Liaison Committee, who sadly passed away in June 2023. Adelene left behind a legacy of dedication, commitment to service, and promoting education in radiation safety in Canada and internationally.

The award will be presented to a CRPA member who has demonstrated exemplary service within the Association. Eligible nominees for the Adelene N.T. Gaw Young Professional’s Award must:

  1. Be under the age of 35,
  2. Have been a CRPA member for a minimum of two years,
  3. Have made demonstrable contributions to a CRPA Committee or Local Organizing Conference Committee, and
  4. Not hold a current position on the Board of Directors

RICHARD V. OSBORNE FOUNDERS’ AWARD

Originally named the Founders’ Award and first presented to CRPA’s founding president, Richard Osborne (1936-2014), in 1988, the Richard V. Osborne Founders’ Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the Association. To be eligible for this award, recipients must have voluntarily engaged in activities in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Enhance the reputation of the Association nationally and internationally,
  2. Encourage the participation in Association activities,
  3. Advance the role and stature of the Association as an important organization in radiation protection, or
  4. Promote the merits of membership in the Association to others who can contribute to, or benefit from the Association’s activities in keeping its objectives

RAYMOND G. ILSON LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Raymond G. Ilson Leadership Award was introduced in 2016 to honour CRPA Founders’ Award recipient and past president, Raymond Ilson (1947-2015). The award is presented to a Radiation Protection professional who:

  1.  Is a CRPA member in good standing,
  2. Has demonstrated or shows promise of leadership in the radiation protection profession or in the Association, and
  3. Has gone above and beyond contributing to the profession

MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD

The Meritorious Service Award will be presented in recognition of significant contributions to either the Association or the radiation protection community in general.

DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Distinguished Achievement Award is presented for outstanding contributions in the field of radiation protection. Recipients of this award must have received recognition from peers either nationally or internationally for accomplishments of major significance to the knowledge, practice or advancement of the radiation protection profession.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP NOMINATIONS

Honorary Members are individuals who have been approved by the Membership as persons worthy of a lifetime membership in the Association.  Honorary Members pay no membership dues and are afforded the same privileges and voting rights as a Full member.

Nominees must have been a Full member for at least 10 consecutive years.  Nominations are motioned for approval by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. 

NOMINATIONS - 2025 AWARDS

Any member or past member of the Association is eligible for the Awards,  except current members of the Board of Directors or as described above.

At least two members of the Association must nominate a given individual for an Award or Honorary Membership. 

Nominations will open in early 2025.

Honorary Membership nominations must be approved by the membership at the Annual General Meeting and Award winners are announced at the Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the CRPA conference.  

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

A short biographical resume of the candidate’s career and reasons why the candidate is being nominated must be provided. Reports, references etc., should be submitted as supporting material for the candidate’s nomination in line with the objectives of the award. Nominations can be emailed to the Secretariat at [email protected].

HONORARY MEMBERS

The members pictured below have been awarded Lifetime Honorary Memberships with the CRPA for their long-standing service, commitment and dedication to the Association.

Gary Hughes

Gary joined CRPA in 2002, served on the Elections Committee (now the Nominations Committee), and was a member of the Local Organizing Committees for the Edmonton conferences. Gary was awarded an Honorary Membership at the 2024 AGM.

Sunil Choubal

Sunil is one of the original founding members of CRPA, has been a member since 1979, served as President from 2006-2007 and has been the CRPA Archivist since 2010. Sunil was awarded an Honorary Membership in 2016.

Dr. Gary H. Kramer

Gary is one of the original founding members of CRPA, has been a member since 1979 and served as President from 1997-1998 and 2012-2013. Gary was awarded an Honorary Membership in 2010.

Previous Award Winners

The Distinguished Achievement Award was the first award introduced at the 1987 Annual General Meeting. Since then, several awards have been added and have evolved with the Association.
